53rd Summer Concerts at Meijer Gardens -Dark Star Orchestra

The annual Fifth Third Bank Summer Concerts at Meijer Gardens continue to bring the finest national and international musicians to West Michigan, thrilling music lovers across all generations and genres. Concerts run June through September and feature the Grand Rapids Symphony, national touring artists, and beautiful, terraced lawn seating—surrounded by spectacular views of gardens and sculpture. A variety of delicious locally sourced food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and performer merchandise is available at the Eileen DeVries Concessions Center.
Performing to critical acclaim for over 20 years and over 3,000 shows, Dark Star Orchestra continues the live Grateful Dead experience. Shows are built off the Dead’s extensive catalog and the talent of seven fine musicians. The band performs based on a set list from the Dead’s 30 years of extensive touring or programs a unique one using their catalog, allowing fans young and old to share in the experience. DSO offers a continually evolving artistic outlet. Honoring bands and fans, they seek each era’s unique style and sound while presenting informed improvisations. They encapsulate the Grateful Dead energy and experience. It’s about a sense of familiarity, a feeling that grabs listeners and takes over, contagious energy. It’s about the complete experience and consistent quality. DSO has performed throughout the United States, in Europe, and in the Caribbean, touching down in seven countries. Fans and critics aren’t the only people caught up in the Dark Star show spirit. The band has featured guest performances from original Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay, Vince Welnick, and Tom Constanten, among other notables, and toured with longtime Dead soundman Dan Healy.
