DESCRIPTION:The Grand Rapids Symphony announced NE-Yo as this year’s special guest for the 21st annual Symphony with Soul concert at 8PM on Saturday\, February 11\, 2023 at DeVos Performance Hall. \nSymphony with Soul opens with the Grand Rapids Symphony Community Chorus led by Duane Shields Davis\, performing the anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” First performed in 1900 by a group of 500 school children for President Lincoln’s birthday celebration\, the cherished song of the Civil Rights Movement is the traditional opener for this community celebration. Also performing alongside Mr. Brady for one of the evening’s selections will be the Grand Rapids Symphony Mosaic Scholars. The Mosaic Scholarship program is for students of color in Kent County who are eager to further their study of an instrument as well as develop their musicianship through performance opportunities and creative exploration.
