Yadira Garza – West Michigan 25 most influential Latinos
Yadira Garza
Senior Director of Development
Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce
Yadira Garza has spearheaded several initiatives with the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce to move the West Michigan Latino community forward.
By actively engaging with Latino entrepreneurs, Garza helps them navigate the complexities of the business ecosystem, providing them with the tools and connections necessary for success.
“This has led to increased economic growth and job creation within the community,” she said.
“In my current role, I have been able to share the mission of the Chamber, specifically the Center for Economic Inclusion, and how this program benefits businesses, particularly diverse-owned businesses like those led by Latino entrepreneurs.”
She also facilitates SpringGR’s Emprende program, which offers Spanish-speaking entrepreneurs foundational knowledge to develop more robust business plans.
Garza said she draws on expertise in finance and business consultation to ensure equitable access to resources and programs for West Michigan Latinos.
As the daughter of immigrant workers from Mexico, Garza said the challenges and resilience of her parents fueled her determination to succeed.
“The values my parents instilled in me—work hard even when no one is watching, honor your family, value education, take pride in your roots, and be authentic—have guided my life and career,” she said.
Outside of the Chamber, Garza serves on the Grand Rapids Public Museum expansion cabinet and the Zapopan Sister Cities Committee, where she works to foster cultural and economic ties between communities. She also serves on the Literacy Center of West Michigan Board of Directors, where she advocates for people for whom English is a second language, ensuring they have access to the literacy resources they need to thrive.
She also is a recent appointee to the Hispanic/Latino Commission of Michigan, allowing her to spread her advocacy to the state level.
“This appointment enhances my work at the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce by aligning our efforts to develop programs and provide advocacy to empower and support our diverse community,” she said.
