Alejandra Guillén
Executive Director
Latin Americans United for Progress

Alejandra Guillén was born and raised in Mexico and moved to West Michigan as an adult, an experience that shaped everything about how she leads. She knows firsthand what it means to navigate systems and spaces where you don’t always see yourself represented, and that understanding has become her compass and her calling.

At Davenport University, she helped launch and grow Casa Latina, opening doors for Latino, bilingual, and first-generation students and their families through culturally responsive education pathways. Today, as Executive Director of LAUP, she leads an organization serving youth, adults, entrepreneurs, workers, and families across the Lakeshore, with programs focused on advocacy, education, workforce development, youth leadership, entrepreneurship, mental health access, and community engagement.

Her impact goes beyond programs and services. It is about helping people feel seen, supported, and capable of achieving more for themselves, their families, and future generations. Through the Latina Network of West Michigan and regional partnerships, she also creates spaces where Latinas and Latino leaders can connect, grow, advocate, and be celebrated.

For Alejandra, influence is not about a title. It is about trust, visibility, consistency, and making sure Latino voices are part of every conversation shaping the future of West Michigan. She wants young Latinas, immigrants, and first-generation students to know they belong in leadership spaces and that their voices can create meaningful change.

“She crossed borders to make sure others never feel like outsiders.”
