Amy Tzintzún
Wealth Management Client Associate
Bank of America Merrill Lynch

Amy Tzintzún is the daughter of Mexican immigrant farmworkers, her father of Purépecha indigenous origin from Michoacán, her mother from Tamaulipas. Born into a migrant family that traveled state to state, she attended up to three schools a year before her family settled in Grand Rapids. She became the first in her immediate family to graduate from college while working full time.

The turning point came when a financial advisor dismissed her for not knowing enough about her own finances, a humiliating experience that became the fuel for her life’s mission. She decided to learn from the best and then go back to teach her community, in both English and Spanish, how to become financially empowered.

Today, as Wealth Management Client Associate at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Amy is one of only five people of color among 150+ employees in her office, a reality she addresses daily by pushing for greater diversity in hiring and in the organizations her firm supports.

In 2017 she co-created the Financial Freedom Forum through the Latina Network of West Michigan, an annual financial empowerment conference that now draws between 100 to 175 community members, covering wealth building, investing, retirement planning, and small business finance. Surveys consistently show attendees want more content and longer days.

For Amy, true financial empowerment means making sure no one in her community is ever turned away for not knowing enough.

“She didn’t wait to be financially free to teach others how to get there.”

Asociada de Gestión de Patrimonio
Bank of America Merrill Lynch
