Owner

Applause Catering + Events

The owner of Applause Catering started as just another worker who made his way up through “sheer hard work and dedication.”

David Castro Godoy believes in creating welcoming and inclusive environments that bring people together around great food. He also advocates for the support and growth of family- and Latino-owned businesses in West Michigan.

“Coming to the United States with dreams of a better future, I faced numerous challenges, from language barriers to cultural adjustments. These early struggles fueled my determination to succeed and give back to the community that embraced me,” he said.

One of his greatest impacts, he said, was with the Hispanic Festival in Grand Rapids, which benefits the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan.

“This event not only celebrates our rich cultural heritage but also serves as a critical fundraiser for the center, which provides essential services such as education, legal assistance and health resources to the Latino community,’ he said.

Castro gradually worked his way up at Applause Catering until he was able to buy the company and provide employment opportunities and training for other Latino residents.

“My leadership qualities are defined by my unwavering dedication, resilience, and ability to inspire others. I believe that trust, respect, and love are the cornerstones of any successful relationship, whether personal or professional,” he said.  “These values guide my interactions with everyone I meet, fostering a sense of community and mutual support.”

Outside of Applause Catering, Castro is a staunch social justice advocate and has participated in numerous campaigns to address issues such as immigration reform, access to healthcare, and equitable education.

By partnering with the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan, Castro has helped organize health fairs and wellness workshops that provide critical health care services and information to the Latino community.
