Dr. Cristóbal Rodríguez serves as Associate Provost for Equity-Centered Initiatives at Western Michigan University, where he has become a driving force for systemic change in higher education—especially for Latino students. A first-generation college graduate, Dr. Rodríguez understands the barriers many Latino families face and has committed his career to breaking them down.

He led the launch of WMU’s Latino Student Success initiative, boosting enrollment and retention through strategic outreach, community partnerships, and culturally responsive student support. Latino enrollment grew from 7% to 9% under his leadership—evidence of a growing pipeline from K-12 schools to college and beyond.

Dr. Rodríguez also spearheaded regional collaborations with K-12 districts and community colleges to create seamless pathways to higher education and high-demand careers. From internships to industry certifications, his programs provide Latino students with tangible tools for success.

Nationally, he brings West Michigan’s voice to the White House, serving on President Biden’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

El Dr. Cristóbal Rodríguez, actual Vicerrector Asociado de Iniciativas Centradas en la Equidad en la Universidad de Western Michigan (WMU), es un líder clave en la transformación del sistema educativo superior—particularmente en beneficio de los estudiantes latinos. Como graduado universitario de primera generación, conoce de primera mano los desafíos que enfrentan muchas familias latinas y ha dedicado su carrera a derribar esas barreras.

Bajo su liderazgo, WMU lanzó la Iniciativa de Éxito Estudiantil Latino, aumentando la inscripción y retención de estudiantes latinos mediante alianzas comunitarias y apoyo académico culturalmente relevante. La matrícula latina creció del 7% al 9%, reflejando un fortalecimiento del acceso a la educación superior.
