Carlos Ruiz was born in Venezuela and came to the United States with a lifelong passion for aviation, earning his pilot’s license in high school before turning that passion into a remarkable career. Today he serves as Chief Commercial Officer at Gerald R. Ford International Airport, the only Latino executive at one of West Michigan’s most important economic gateways.
With more than 15 years of aviation experience, Carlos oversees the airport’s entire commercial strategy, air service development, real estate, marketing, contract management, and revenue generation. Before Grand Rapids, he managed a commercial portfolio exceeding $90 million in annual revenue at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, leading innovative passenger technologies including parking reservation systems and smart shuttle tracking. He also previously led commercial operations at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport.
He holds a Bachelor’s in Aviation Management from The Ohio State University, an MBA from Tiffin University, and the prestigious A.A.E. and IAP designations.
Through his role, Carlos is directly shaping West Michigan’s connectivity and economic growth, expanding air service, enhancing the passenger experience, and strengthening commercial partnerships that create jobs and opportunity for the entire region. Carlos Ruiz nació en Venezuela y llegó a los Estados Unidos con una pasión de toda la vida por la aviación, obteniendo su licencia de piloto en la preparatoria antes de convertir esa pasión en una carrera extraordinaria. Hoy se desempeña como Chief Commercial Officer en el Aeropuerto Internacional Gerald R. Ford, el único ejecutivo latino en uno de los principales centros económicos de West Michigan.
Con más de 15 años de experiencia en aviación, Carlos supervisa toda la estrategia comercial del aeropuerto, desarrollo de rutas aéreas, bienes raíces, marketing, gestión de contratos y generación de ingresos. Antes de Grand Rapids, administró un portafolio comercial que superó los $90 millones en ingresos anuales en el Aeropuerto Internacional de Cincinnati, liderando tecnologías innovadoras para pasajeros incluyendo sistemas de reserva de estacionamiento y seguimiento de shuttles. También lideró operaciones comerciales en el Aeropuerto de Greenville-Spartanburg.
Tiene una Licenciatura en Gestión de Aviación de The Ohio State University, un MBA de Tiffin University y las prestigiosas designaciones A.A.E. e IAP.
