I was born in Concepción, Chile. My family and I migrated to the United States in December 2002, not knowing the language or the culture. I made the decision to work with unaccompanied children crossing the US border, seeking a better life. One of the most challenging and frustrating experiences I’ve encountered in my professional career.
A position at one of Grand Rapids’ largest schools, with the highest percentage of Latino students. Serving victims of abuse and other mental health issues. Witnessing the suffering of these students due to domestic abuse in their homes was heart-wrenching. In 2019, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create the Puertas Abiertas (Open Doors) organization to address this issue head-on.
I find honesty, authenticity, and dedication to be the most valuable qualities for success in running the organization.

Nací en Concepción, Chile. Mi familia y yo emigramos a Estados Unidos en diciembre de 2002, sin conocer el idioma ni la cultura. Tomé la decisión de trabajar con niños no acompañados que cruzan la frontera de Estados Unidos en busca de una vida mejor. Una de las experiencias más desafiantes y frustrantes que he encontrado en mi carrera profesional.
Un puesto en una de las escuelas más grandes de Grand Rapids, con el mayor porcentaje de estudiantes latinos. Atendiendo a víctimas de abuso y otros problemas de salud mental.
Ser testigo del sufrimiento de estos estudiantes debido al abuso doméstico en sus hogares fue desgarrador. En 2019 decidí tomar cartas en el asunto y crear la organización Puertas Abiertas para abordar este tema de frente.
Considero que la honestidad, la autenticidad y la dedicación son las cualidades más valiosas para tener éxito en la gestión de la organización.
